Amelanchier arborea: Serviceberry, Juneberry, Saskatoon.
This fruiting tree is a delicious native species. The berries ripen early and continue to ripen throughout the summer. They can be found in forests or fields but often do not produce many ripe berries in the woods. Look for them on campuses or industrial parks as they are often used as landscaping trees.
The berries are delicious fresh, frozen, canned, or dried. They are "seedier" than blueberries and have a little of an almond taste to them.
