Burke's Garden Birding Trip with Blue Ridge Birders

Blue Ridge Birders and Blue Ridge Discovery Center will conduct a Burkes Garden field trip on Tuesday, June 13th. We will look for open land birds like Bald Eagle, Red-headed Woodpecker, American Kestrel, Willow Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike, Grasshopper Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, Bobolink, Eastern Meadowlark, Orchard Oriole, Baltimore Oriole, Yellow Warbler, and Common Yellowthroat.

We will meet at Mattie's Place and go out in different directions depending on the turnout. Cade Campbell and Allen Boynton will be our lead guides for the day.

Here is the game plan: 

  • Arrive at Burkes Garden by 9:30am. Participants will meet at Mattie's Place, 920 Goss Mill Rd, Tazewell, VA 24651. She has been notified of our arrival and will be open for coffee, snacks, and restroom.

  • If you plan to carpool with our staff to Mattie's Place, we will meet at BRDC in Konnarock at 8:00am.

  • We will have binoculars and guide books available for use.

  • Please bring water, snacks, and lunch if you are not planning on eating lunch at Mattie's Place.
