This little guy looked like a piece of trash on my moth sheet last night (10/13)—until I took a close look. It was no more than a half-inch in length. This morning I did a search and found that the critter is an ambush bug, subfamily Phymatinae
, and probably one of the jagged ambush bugs, Phymata
. It hides in flowers and other colorful sites, preying on other insects, including some larger than itself.
