BRDC's Discovery Camp is an adventure-packed, 4-day/3-night experience catering to young naturalists with an interest in everything nature. Campers will explore the many natural wonders of the Blue Ridge through outdoor recreational activities, from Virginia's highest peaks to mountain streams, wetlands, and forests, plus all the flora and fauna that call those areas home. Campers will have the opportunity to kayak, fly fish local streams, spend a night outdoors, and hike in one of this region's rarest natural plant communities- spruce/fir forest. Along the way, they'll discover rich bird and salamander biodiversity, immerse themselves in new ecosystems by hiking and snorkeling, and participate in citizen science projects, all while making lasting friendships. Topics will be widespread, but will include ecology, ornithology, herpetology, entomology, astronomy, and more! Campers will be staying overnight in BRDC’s Schoolhouse with one night camping in the yard.
