Soybean Loopers

Now that cold weather has effectively ended the mothing season, I'm cleaning up some odds and ends.

The moths in the photo are individuals of the same species, Chrysodeixis includens, the soybean looper. Moth's scales are highly reflective, causing multiple color effects. The image on the left was taken in daylight in Patrick County, Virginia and the one on the right with a flash in Carroll County, Virginia.
