Blue Ridge Discovery center (BRDC) is sponsoring a hike to Mt. Rogers through its Blue Ridge Expeditions (BRE) program. The 9 mile all-day hike will ascend to Virginia’s highest point and the ecology of the spruce-fir forest will be discussed. Local naturalist Roald Kirby and the acknowledged Mt. Rogers expert Dr. Phil Shelton of UVA-Wise will lead the group.
Participants should meet at Massie Gap parking area in Grayson Highlands State Park on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10:00 am and bring lunch, water and suitable clothing/ footwear. The park will charge a parking fee. Be prepared for cool breezy weather.
BRDC is a non-profit outdoor education organization based in Grayson County and its BRE programs are free and open to the public.
