Due to ongoing construction on the BRDC campus, we have decided to cancel the traditional Summer Rally and replace it with a volunteer weekend, full of projects that will help us achieve our goal of operating at full capacity by the 48th anniversary of the Mount Rogers Naturalist Rally in 2022. We invite volunteers of all ages and have a variety of projects suitable for an array of interests and skills.

- Weeding in the Schoolhouse Rain Garden/driveway pools

- Installing deer protection around young trees and shrubs

- Staining picnic tables

- Planting around Visitor’s Center

- Brass (light fixture) tarnishing and/or assembly of fixtures

- Painting/priming exterior doors

- Constructing/painting/priming barn door

- Building bat boxes

- Building/installing salamander cover boards

- Constructing solitary bee houses

- Replacing “Track Trap” sand with mud

- Planting apple trees (and applying deer protection)

- Trash pick-up around campus

- Potting bare-root trees

We will provide snacks and dinner for all volunteers on Saturday, August 21st, and provide breakfast on Sunday. We invite tent and small (e.g. pop-up) camper camping for volunteers who plan on participating multiple days. BRDC staff will be available to provide direction and answer any questions.
