Golden-winged Warbler Survey

GWWA.jpg

Blue Ridge Discovery Center is teaming up with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, DWR, VCU and the US Forest Service to determine whether Golden-winged Warblers and other high priority bird species are breeding in the high elevation balds within the vicinity of Mount Rogers. Other priority bird species include Blue-winged Warbler, Golden/Blue-winged Warbler hybrids, Least Flycatcher, Alder Flycatcher, Willow Flycatcher, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Vesper Sparrow, and Savannah Sparrow.

Habitat loss though natural and unnatural means is thought to be one of the leading causes of the drastic decline in golden-winged warbler populations across their range, so maintaining known breeding habitat is critical for the species.

In nature nothing exists alone.
