
National Fishing in the Schools Program
Blue Ridge Discovery Center President and Guide, Aaron Floyd, has been tapped by the National Fishing in the Schools Program to train ten United States Fish and Wildlife Service employees how to teach the NFSP "Cast a Fly, Catch a Student" curriculum.

Blue Ridge Expeditions: Sullivan Swamp
On June 7th, a small group of us met at the Massie Gap parking area of Grayson Highlands State Park for our second local Blue Ridge Expeditions hike of the year. Roald Kirby led a 4 mile walk around the edges of Sullivan Swamp, sometimes taking us off the trail for a while. Bushwhacking, he said, can bring surprises.

RAPTORS OF HARVEY'S KNOB HAWK WATCH
This project is a partnership with the Community School of Roanoke and Harvey's Knob Hawk Watch. 5th, 6th and 7th graders of the Community School in Roanoke, VA diligently observed and illustrated the raptors at Harvey's Knob Hawk Watch.

BUTTERFLIES OF SULLIVAN SWAMP, GRAYSON HIGHLANDS STATE PARK
Our 2012 collaboration finished up in January of 2013. This project was a partnership with the Grayson County High School 2nd year art class and BRDC’s Project SiteSection. With this poster we will be helping to spotlight the globally unique habit that is Sullivan Swamp by illustrating the full list of butterflies documented by the SiteSection program.

THE AQUATIC MACROINVERTEBRATES OF WILSON CREEK
Conducted in 2011 this project was an enormously successful collaboration between Project Fishbugs, Blue Ridge Illustrated and the Grayson County High School art program. Together we produced a poster featuring 23 Aquatic Macroinvertebrates of Wilson Creek.
