Join Blue Ridge Birders and Dr. Ashley Peele for a short talk and workshop about the Virginia Breeding Bird Atlas project at 10am on Saturday, March, 4th 2017 at the Matthews State Forest Office in Galax, VA. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in a vital citizen science project documenting the birds of Virginia. Beginner and advanced birders are welcome.
Ashley will be talking about the reasons behind this project, its goals and how to participate. She will be going over some technicalities of reporting, making it easy for you to get involved. The project uses "breeding codes" to help document the breeding status of different species. Although much of the work is done by advanced birders, there are many opportunities for beginners to contribute. Make your birding count this year and help us get baseline data on the avian population of VA!
Directions: The Matthews State Forest Office is just west of Galax on Highway 58 and located on the North side of the highway. Leaving the City of Galax and heading west on Hwy 58, you will come to a blinking yellow caution light. Matthews State Forest Office is the 2nd Right after the caution light. (about 1/2 mile after the “Welcome to Grayson County” sign) The office is in the large wooden building up the hill.
