Whorled Yellow Loosestrife
I learned yesterday (9/27/12) that whorled yellow loosestrife grows within moth-flying distance of my home in Carroll County, VA. Why? The moth whose caterpillar uses it as a host plant showed up on my moth sheet. Papaipema lysimachiae is a borer. The caterpillar lives inside the stem of the plant. On a personal note, it was the sixth species of Papaipema to show up at the house. Enjoy!
